Welcome back Disney, Pixar, and the summer box office.
The studios and their highly anticipated sequel have shattered all expectations, including our own bullish forecasts, with an estimated $155 million domestic opening weekend. That ranks as the second highest ever for an animated release, behind only Incredibles 2 ($182.7 million).
Of note, Disney does not count 2019’s The Lion King remake as an animated film.
Inside Out 2 earns the best debut of 2024 thus far, topping Dune: Part Two‘s $82.5 million. It’s the best debut of any film since Barbie last July, which posted $162 million in its domestic start.
Globally, Inside Out 2 is posting an estimated $295 million haul, the best ever for animation. That includes $140 million internationally, also the best ever for an animated pic.
We’ll have additional updates and final results after Father’s Day.
